Important: VLT is Measured Through Glass + Film
Texas law measures VLT through the combined glass and film. Factory glass already blocks some light, so the film VLT needs to account for this. We always measure and install to ensure the final combined VLT meets the 25% minimum on front windows.
What Does VLT Mean?
VLT stands for Visible Light Transmission — the percentage of visible light that passes through the window film. Lower VLT = darker tint.
- 5% VLT = Very dark (limo tint) — illegal on front windows in Texas
- 20% VLT = Dark — illegal on front windows in Texas
- 25% VLT = The legal minimum for front side windows in Texas
- 35% VLT = Medium — popular choice for front windows
- 50% VLT = Light — minimal privacy, good heat rejection
- 70% VLT = Very light — barely visible, good for windshield
