Tesla paint is notoriously soft. Here's everything you need to know about protecting it — from a shop that installs PPF on Teslas every week in College Station, TX.

Tesla's paint is widely known in the automotive community to be softer than traditional OEM paint. This isn't a secret — Tesla owners and detailers have documented it extensively. The result: Tesla paint chips more easily, swirls more easily during washing, and shows damage more readily than most other vehicles.
The most vulnerable areas are the hood, front bumper, and front fenders — exactly the surfaces that take the most rock chip impact from highway driving. A single highway trip can result in dozens of micro-chips on an unprotected Tesla hood.
PPF is the most effective solution. It creates a physical barrier that absorbs impacts before they reach the paint — and self-heals minor swirls and scratches with heat.

Full Front Package
From $999
The Model Y's sloped hood and large front bumper are highly exposed. The full front package (hood, bumper, fenders, mirrors) is the most popular install. The frunk lid is also recommended as it's frequently opened and prone to edge chips.
Second most common install

Full Front Package
From $899
Similar vulnerability to the Model Y. The Model 3's lower front bumper is particularly prone to chips. Full front is the recommended starting point. Rocker panels are also popular due to the low ride height.
Premium protection for premium vehicles

Full Body PPF
From $5,400
Given the higher vehicle value, most Model S and X owners opt for full body protection. The panoramic roof on the Model X also benefits from PPF on the leading edge.

The Cybertruck's stainless steel body doesn't chip like paint, but the painted bumpers and trim pieces benefit from PPF. The glass roof is also a popular addition. Contact us for a Cybertruck-specific quote.
One of the most common questions we get: will PPF affect Autopilot or FSD?
The answer is no — PPF is optically clear and does not interfere with Tesla's cameras, radar, or ultrasonic sensors. We use model-specific computer-cut patterns that are designed to avoid sensor zones.
Forward cameras
Not affected — patterns avoid camera zones
Autopilot / FSD
Not affected — optically clear film
Ultrasonic sensors
Not affected — sensors are not covered
Radar (older models)
Not affected — radar penetrates PPF

Before delivery is ideal — the paint is in perfect condition and you protect it from the first mile. If you've already taken delivery, we can still install PPF. We'll inspect the paint and recommend paint correction if needed before installation.
Absolutely — and it's our most popular Tesla package. Full front PPF plus ceramic tint on all windows and the glass roof. We call it the Tesla Protection Package. It covers the two highest-impact protection areas in one visit.
No — Tesla's warranty does not cover paint chips from road debris. PPF is the only way to protect against this type of damage.
A full front package on a Model 3 or Model Y takes 6–8 hours. We can often complete it same-day. Full body PPF takes 5–7 days.
We install both XPEL Ultimate Plus and STEK DYNOshield on Teslas. Both are excellent. For stealth/matte finish, we recommend STEK DYNOmatte. For standard clear protection, either brand is outstanding.
