What Is Paint Protection Film?
Paint Protection Film (PPF) is a clear, thermoplastic urethane film applied directly to a vehicle's painted surfaces. It acts as an invisible physical barrier between your paint and the road — absorbing impacts from rock chips, road debris, bug acids, bird droppings, and minor abrasions before they can damage your paint.
Modern PPF is optically clear, self-healing, and virtually invisible on your vehicle. It was originally developed for military helicopters to protect rotor blades from debris damage. The automotive industry adopted the technology in the 1990s, and today it's the gold standard for paint protection on new and high-value vehicles.

How Does PPF Work?
Physical barrier
The 8 mil urethane film absorbs impacts from rocks, road debris, and other hazards before they reach your paint. The film takes the damage — not your car.
Self-healing topcoat
The elastomeric polymer topcoat has memory — minor swirl marks and light scratches disappear with heat from sunlight or warm water, leaving the film looking new.
Hydrophobic surface
PPF repels water and contaminants, making the car easier to wash and reducing the chance of water spots and chemical etching.
UV protection
The film blocks UV rays that cause paint oxidation, fading, and yellowing — keeping your paint looking newer for longer.
Coverage Options
PPF can be applied to any painted surface. The most common coverage packages, from most affordable to most comprehensive:
Front Bumper Only
The most common entry point. The front bumper takes the most rock chip damage on any vehicle. Protects the highest-impact zone at the lowest cost.
Partial Front
Adds the hood leading edge and headlights to the bumper. Popular for highway drivers.
Full Front
The most popular package. Covers all high-impact front-end surfaces. Recommended for most daily drivers.
Full Body
Maximum protection — every painted panel on the vehicle. Typically takes 5–7 days. Recommended for new vehicles, exotics, and long-term ownership.
Types of PPF
Clear / Gloss PPF
The standard. Optically transparent and preserves your factory gloss finish. Virtually invisible on the vehicle.
Best for: Most vehicles
Stealth / Matte PPF
Has a matte finish that converts a gloss paint to a satin/matte look while providing full protection. Popular on black and dark vehicles.
Best for: Gloss-to-matte conversion
Colored PPF
Available in dozens of colors (STEK DYNOFLEX). Provides a color change with the protection of PPF — significantly thicker than vinyl wrap.

The Installation Process
Vehicle inspection
We inspect the paint for chips, scratches, and contamination. Any issues are documented and discussed before installation begins.
Paint decontamination
The vehicle is thoroughly washed, clay barred, and decontaminated. Any surface contamination under the film will be sealed in permanently.
Paint correction (if needed)
If the paint has swirls or scratches, we correct them before installation. PPF locks in the paint's current condition.
Computer-cut patterns
We use DAP (Design Access Program) software to cut precise patterns for your specific vehicle. No bulk cutting on the car.
Film installation
The film is applied using a slip solution, positioned precisely, and squeegeed to remove all moisture and air bubbles.
Curing
The film is allowed to cure for 24–48 hours. We recommend keeping the vehicle dry during this period.
Is PPF Worth It?
The honest answer: it depends on how long you plan to keep the vehicle and how much you care about the paint condition.
PPF is worth it if:

- You drive on highways frequently (high rock chip exposure)
- You plan to keep the vehicle for 5+ years

PPF may not be necessary if: You drive a beater, plan to sell within a year, or primarily drive in low-debris urban environments at low speeds.

Can I put ceramic coating on top of PPF?
Yes — and we recommend it. Ceramic coating on top of PPF enhances the hydrophobic properties, makes the car easier to wash, and adds an extra layer of gloss.
How long does PPF installation take?
A full front package (hood, bumper, fenders, mirrors) takes 6–8 hours. A full body wrap in PPF takes 5–7 days. We offer same-day partial installs.
Will PPF turn yellow over time?
Premium PPF from XPEL and STEK is formulated to resist yellowing. Both brands warranty against yellowing for 10 years. Cheap, off-brand films can yellow — another reason to choose a reputable brand.
